A sexual abuse lawsuit filed against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Pueblo today includes allegations against a former priest who committed suicide in September.
It's the first time Andrew Burke has been named in such a lawsuit. He shot himself in the heart after a prisoner alleged that he had been molested by Burke in the 1970s.
Lawyer Jeffrey Herman says it was the prisoner who filed today's lawsuit but he wouldn't disclose why the 45-year-old man is behind bars.
The lawsuit alleges the diocese knew Burke was a threat to minors yet did not protect children from abuse. It seeks unspecified damages.
Authorities say Burke left a suicide note, but it did not mention the allegations.
