Two police officers are expected to survive after being shot, thanks to their bullet proof vests.

The Lakewood officers were checking the welfare of a man after his wife called police saying he was despondent.

The suspect allegedly walked outside the home and started shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire, injuring the alleged gunman.

All three are expected to survive, according to police.

No names have been released.

The area where the shooting look place Saturday night is a few miles to the west of downtown Denver, near the intersection of West Jewell Avenue and South Kipling Street.

The area was closed throughout the night and into the morning while police investigated the scene.
