Soldier Charged with Killing Another Soldier

A Fort Carson-based soldier whose unit was scheduled to deploy to Iraq this month now faces formal charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault, after allegedly beating another soldier -- who later died.
Prosecutors in Colorado Springs filed charges Monday against 22-year-old Specialist Timothy Parker, of the Third Brigade Combat Team.
Parker is charged in Friday's death of 21-year-old Specialist Piotr Szczypka The Second Brigade Combat Team soldier was an Iraq war veteran who'd returned from the Middle East three months ago.
Police say Szczypka died after an attack at an apartment complex early Friday.
Parker is also accused of beating another Fort Carson soldier, who suffered a cut on his face.
