A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. Areas under these bands will see periods of heavy snowfall which, with windy conditions, could create travel difficulties. A Colorado Springs fugitive is dead, after allegedly pointing a gun at police who were chasing him on-foot.
El Paso County sheriff's deputies and a police SWAT team were staking out a home near Colorado College just before nine o-clock last night when three people emerged, then sped away in a car.
Two of the occupants surrendered moments later, but the driver reportedly got out and started running.
Police chased the man for about a block when he allegedly pulled a pistol and pointed at them.
One of the officers fired, striking the man. He died a short time later at a local hospital.
Neither police nor sheriff's officials will say how many shots were fired, where the suspect was hit, or why he was wanted.
The officer is now on routine administrative leave.
