Vail Resorts has negotiated a refund of overpaid property taxes that will cost other Summit County taxpayers about $900,000.
Vail Resorts has spent the last year appealing property taxes it paid in 1998 and 1999. It claimed assessors reported incorrect figures for snowmaking equipment, lift equipment, and office furniture and equipment.
The gaffe is expected to cost Summit Schools $433,000 and the county government 211,000.
The Snake River Fire District, Colorado Mountain College, and several water conservancy districts will also have to pay.
County Commissioner Gary Lindstrom says officials will hold a public meeting to discuss the abatement items.
The error was blamed on an accountant that Vail Resorts had contracted. An internal corporate audit later revealed the mistake.
