The Ferguson Fire Department reports they have made good progress throughout the week but the fire that started on Monday is still burning.

Operations were scaled down at 6 a.m. Friday leaving only eight engines. But firefighters continue to work to fully contain the estimated 200 acres, located approximately 35 miles southwest of Canon City.

The Fremont County and BLM will continue to manage the fire.

The fire is suspected to be human caused and is currently under investigation by the Fremont County Sheriff Department. It started on private property and then spread on to BLM public lands.

The public, other than residents, are asked to stay clear of the area for firefighters and personal safety.
