One month after the Ordway fire took her son's life, a mother of a firefighting hero opens up about her loss.
Deborah DeVore didn't know that when she said goodbye to her son, Terry, on April 15th, it would be for the last time.
DeVore was responding to the Ordway fire with fellow firefighter John Schwartz, when their truck drove over a burned out bridge.
Terry's father was driving behind Terry, and witness the accident. He was the one to break the news to his family.
"There stood my husband and the Coroner behind him and the Chaplain, and my husband looked at me and said, 'we lost him,'" recalls Deborah.
Now, Deborah wears a necklace holding Terry's ashes.
DeVore also left behind four young children.
The Olney Springs Fire Department is getting a new fire truck, and will dedicate it in honor of Terry DeVore and John Schwartz.
