A 14-year-old Louisville, Kentucky girl whose feet were severed by an amusement park ride last summer says the accident has changed her life forever.

Cables on the Superman Tower of Power ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom snapped on June 21, shearing off Kaitlyn's feet.

The teen says that she isn't the person she was before. She says she's afraid now, and fears for her life when she gets in a car or elevator.

Lasitter spoke in Washington, D.C. Wednesday in support of a bill sponsored by Congressman Edward Markey of Massachusetts to give federal safety regulators powers over amusement parks.

Lasitter's family is suing the park, claiming it failed to maintain the ride and ensure riders' safety. Six Flags has denied liability.

i have been to a couple of amusement parks, worlds of fun in kansas city being the largest and have been there when they open the gates. you cant ride a ride until it has been tested several times. i have seen this myself. now this does not mean that every park is the same but i would suppose that they hold pretty high standards to ensure this type of thing does not happen. i would be inclined to believe that this was simply a freak accident. yes, 6 flags should take care of this girl but isnt that what they carry insurance for? it is a tragedy but she is alive. could that be something to be grateful for? the cable did not rip off her head. always look to the brighter side and thank the good Lord for His graciousness and a childs life spared.

Mark, while I share your sentiments about hoping Kaitlyn gets everything she needs from Six Flags, I hate to point out that EVERY business is there primarily for the profit...

I sincerely hope that this young woman gets everything she will need to live a wonderful and joyful life; she should not have to deal with this tragety alone. I hope the Judge who hears the case against Six Flags throws the book at them and holds them financially and morally responsible for their negligence. I will not spend another penny at any Six Flags location as their bottom line is profit is #1. Shame on them.......

The gall of he amusement park to say they are not responsible. They should not even need to go to court the park should settle out of court and give this child everything she will ever need. Bottom line it was the amusment parks ride and lack of inspection that caused the loss of her feet. I am appaled and sickend by the lack of care or concern the amusement park is showing. I hope this girl and her family win everything they go after in court and I hope they include a clause demanding the parks to inspect their rides daily.
