Taking a piece of the past and saving it for the future was what NORAD did Tuesday. As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, a time capsule was sealed and put into a rock.

“There is no greater symbol than the rock. It stands up to those who do us harm," said Canadian Minister of Defense, Peter MacKay.

Inside was a historical timeline of NORAD with pictures showing how it has changed over the past 50 years. "The threats we see today are not same as the Cold War," said General Victor Renuart, Commander of NORAD.

The time capsule will be opened on the 75th anniversary of NORAD in the year 2033.

Also marking the 50th anniversary, the majority of NORAD operations are moved to Peterson Air Force Base and out of Cheyenne Mountain.
