The Justice Department will reportedly investigate a furor over alleged ethics violations within the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Five USOC officials have resigned since last Monday. That's the same day the committee's executive board cleared USOC chief Lloyd Ward of any wrongdoing.

Ward had been accused of directing USOC staff to make introductions on behalf of Detroit-based Energy Management Technologies to Pan Am organizers in the Dominican Republic.

The company reportedly has ties to Ward's brother and a close friend. Ward signed a USOC disclosure form last July saying he had no real or perceived conflicts of interest.

U.S. authorities plan to meet Wednesday with the project manager of the Pan Am Games. He says he was offered a bribe by Energy Management Technologies CEO Lorenzo Williams.
