A Denver police officer has been arrested on a second-degree assault charge after being accused of using excessive force against a 16-year-old boy.

Officer Charles Porter was arrested yesterday. He's accused of using excessive force against a teen who suffered a lacerated liver, kidney injuries and broken ribs in an April 18th incident.

The 40-year-old Porter is a member of the department's gang bureau, but was suspended without pay.

He has declined comment.

Lieutenant Ronald Saunier says an investigation is continuing.

The Denver chapter of the Latino Peace Officers Association has asked Police Chief Gerry Whitman to turn the case over to the FBI for investigation of possible civil-rights violations.

How wonderful! An accusation and smear without any facts on the incident being presented. Since the officer is part of the gang bureau, can we assume the juvenile is a gang-banger? What were the circumstances surrounding the incident? How about a story to back up the accusation?
