Professional golfer Jeff Maggert says the man killed Thursday in a single-engine plane crash near Black Hawk was his brother, Barry, of Carbondale.

Jeff Maggert withdrew from The Players Championship in Florida yesterday, telling tournament officials that his brother had been killed in a small plane crash in Colorado.

The Aspen Daily News reported the Cessna that crashed was co-owned by Barry Maggert and Carroll Winkler, who said Maggert was flying to Boulder for the graduation of his son, Lee, from the University of Colorado.

Authorities say the pilot was 55, and a passenger was 23. The injured 23-year-old was flown to a Denver hospital.

Alpine Rescue Team spokesman Bill Barwick says crews will bring the pilot's body down from the crash site today.

The plane went down approximatly 40 miles west of Denver.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus in Seattle says one of the people on board called 911 from a cell phone after the crash.
