The Police Protective Association is showing support for District Attorney John Newsome in light of recent allegations against him.

The PPA's official statement follows.

"The PPA acknowledges that DA John Newsome has recently made some poor choices. This organization is comfortable with the fact that DA Newsome has accepted responsibility for his actions. The PPA supports John Newsome, recognizing that he has had a remarkable career as the 4th Judicial District Attorney since 2004. We remain optimistic and confident in his ability, along with his staff, to effectively serve the citizens of this community."

Established in 1972 by members of the CSPD, The Colorado Springs Police Protective Association provides its members with legal representation, advise, and benefits.

The Association currently supports 875 sworn officers, civilian employees, and retirees.

I expect the same support if the police pull me over for anything. In any case, I expect to walk too. As far as I am concerned, the cops that support this guy, support drunk driving among city employees and should be fired. They have no right to wear their badge.

so they want to show him support what about us tax payers that make honest mistakes and take credit for it what about the support shown for them!?!?!?! funny how things work!!!!!!!!!!!

To Doesn't Matter: Even if we had ever driven while intoxicated, either a) we didn't get caught or b) we did aand are paying for it now. The cops have a supposed "0 tolerance" policy when it comes to something like this, but we have our very own DA doing the same thing he prosecutes people for and an apology makes everything ok? I don't think so. He wants to accept responsibility, then do the jail time, pay the fine, do the classes and community service, then he's accepted responsibility.

I totally agree with you littlewolf... WHERE DO I APPLY??

Posted by: Martinez Location: Southside on May 9, 2008 at 08:46 AM
Wow, hey 'doesnt matter' Those are the words of an alcoholic. I have never drank and drove. I know dozens of people who would'nt do that. My brother was killed by a drunk driver. Please have more respect for the good law abiding citizens.

Well technically he did nothing wrong except let KOAA tape him. As he said his work hours are different from day to day and him being secretly taped at a bar just proves that well he can drink. Alcohol is legal.. the only thing he really did wrong was drive a company vehicle after drinking.. and who hasnt EVER drove while intoxicated at least once in their life. If he was video taped drinking.. then driving.. then being pulled over and let go.. then we got a problem.

Well i guess i need to work for the DA so i dont have to pay for my speeding tickets, see i dont even drink so that should be easy, but i get speeding ticketsd and i have to pay for the judge, court time and to reduce my points, yeap, i cant get away, so why should he?

One more thing...it's a brotherhood!!! God bless the men who faithfully uphold their position...

Posted by: Rich Location: Colorado Springs on May 8, 2008 at 07:11 PM
Ok...ok...so he made a mistake...the police support him...does this speak of collusion? Pretty much...if it was me and I drank 120 oz of beer...I would be arrested...FACT. Come on people...wake up...yes...they are here to serve protect and defend..and 70% will do that...the rest...it's all about POWER...CONTROL...next time you need help....call a DRUNK!!!

Just the law protecting one of their own. If that would have been antone of the regular public doing what he has been video taped doing we would be in the over crowded CJC right now wondering why they can get away with it and we get thrown in jail for a small traffic violation.

If he accepted responsibility, I would accept nothing less than he turning over his Drivers License, paying a $5000 fine and taking a driving course. Then he will have taken responsibility for his actions.
