Myanmar's military rulers have not accepted U.S. offers of help, but the Pentagon is going ahead with preparations for a humanitarian mission.
Pentagon officials say the Navy is moving ships, Marines and helicopters into neighboring Thailand and the Air Force says it's also moved airplanes to a staging area there.
The Navy and Marine Corps already have ships and thousands of service members in the Gulf of Thailand for a multinational exercise on humanitarian missions. Because it will take the ships several days to get to the Myanmar area, the Navy is sending some of the group's helicopters and troops ahead over land.
The Pentagon says that although the military junta has not agreed to allow U.S. humanitarian assistance, it asked for and has been provided U.S. satellite pictures of the cyclone-devastated areas.
