Officials say there are no reports of serious damage after a light earthquake hit near Steamboat Springs late Friday, knocking things off shelves and skewing wall hangings.

The earthquake, measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, occurred about midnight about 14 miles northeast of Steamboat Springs.

The Routt County sheriff's office didn't receive any reports of damage but dispatchers reported receiving up to 300 phone calls from people reporting the quake.

The area usually experiences a couple of minor or light quakes a year, according to Waverly Person, a geophysicist with the U-S Geographical Survey in Golden.
