(Durango-AP) -- More than 330 homes have been evacuated as a
20,000-acre wildfire burns today in the San Juan National Forest near Durango.

Residents of another 450 homes have been told to be ready to
leave. Fire officials say swirling winds pushed the fire toward two subdivisions south of Lemon Reservoir. Evacuees are being sent to Bayfield High School.

Fire managers are trying to determine whether any structures burned Saturday night.

More than 900 firefighters were battling the blaze, about 10 miles north of Durango.

The fire had been about 20 percent contained earlier Saturday and crews expressed optimism after slowing its spread Friday.

Some residents were even allowed into their homes temporarily to
retrieve personal items.
