Colorado state legislators are awash in ideas to help resolve the drought. Lawmakers are beginning to toss around the early the stages of ideas that could turn into bills later on.
The possible solutions they've come up with include: setting mandatory water conservation targets for residents and cities, giving cities a quicker way to buy water from farmers during a drought and helping water providers borrow to build and repair dams.
Lawmakers and water experts agree there is little the Legislature can do to fix the drought this year, but some measures could increase the long-term stability of the state's water supply.
Reservoir storage statewide is at 51% of the 30-year average.
