Former Teacher to Stay Behind Bars

A former Colorado Springs teacher will stay in prison for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old student, after an appeals court upheld a ruling revoking the man's probation.

A judge sentenced William Leon Pirraglia to six years probation in August 2000 after he pleaded guilty to sexual assault.

But an El Paso County District Court judge revoked Pirraglia's probation slightly more than three years later -- saying he left the county without approval, was slow to register as a sex offender, and failed to make progress in court-ordered treatment.

That judge sentenced Pirraglia to eight years in prison.

Pirraglia claimed his treatment program was improperly determined, but a three-judge panel of the state Court of Appeals disagreed and upheld the prison term.
