Breckenridge opened new ski area terrain Friday.
It's a 30% expansion to the resort's size that includes seven new trails served by a six seat lift and officials say other long term expansion plans include a gondola, parking and condos.
Some residents of Breckenridge, an old mining community, objected to some of the building plans because of concerns about the environment and fears that commercial development close to the ski runs would take away business from the town, but the new ski trails, which are on U.S. Forest Service land attracted little opposition.
