President Bush is calling on China to reach out to the Dalai Lama to find a solution to the unrest in Tibet. He says starting a dialogue would "stand the Chinese government in good stead."
The president spoke about the civil unrest in Tibet and China's crackdown there during a White House meeting with Singapore's senior minister.
Violent clashes in Tibet are threatening to overshadow China's role as host of the Summer Olympics in August. Protests have spread to the Olympic torch relay, which is taking place Wednesday in San Francisco.
