The University of Colorado has a new speed limit for bikes anywhere on campus, except in dedicated bike lanes: 5 miles per hour.

CU police Commander Brad Wiesley says officers will give warnings to violators, but if tickets are written, it could amount to a $50 fine.

The university rolled out speed limits for bikes and other vehicles as part of an effort to make its campus safer for pedestrians and others. CU officials say there was no bike speed limit before.
