High school athletes from across Southern Colorado have a new option for playing after high school. And it won't break the bank.

Among many improvements, Colorado State University in Pueblo is getting a football team. They are also adding a wrestling team and women's track and field.

High school athletes now have another choice for playing college sports in their own backyard.

"I'd like to stay in Pueblo, stay here in Colorado and go to college, and play football," says Tyler Abeyta, Central High School.

Family and friends will be able to watch their athlete play, and their athlete can compete--without the burden of an out-of- state tuition bill.

"Its cheaper for kids to stay down here if they live in Pueblo, instead of going out of state, going to a college where it costs more," says Abeyta.

Tuesday's first practice brought the red and blue back to the field for the first time since 1984.

Boosters say that will translate into a sea of red and blue fans spending their green.

Teams will travel to Pueblo's home games, stay at hotels, and eat at restaurants.

Fans will follow suit and spend their money on tickets, concessions, and team memorabilia.

Close to two-million dollars could be generated from the return of the CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves.

The first game is September 6th against Panhandle State.
