The Cotter Uranium Mill is getting conflicting directives about whether it may accept 470,000 tons of radioactive dirt from New Jersey.
The federal Environmental Protection Agency said Friday that the mill's inability to meet state regulations makes it unfit to dispose of waste from federal Superfund sites, but a day earlier, the state Department of Public Health and Environment sent Cotter a letter lifting the suspension it imposed last summer on the mill's authorization to accept the waste.
Cotter vice president Rich Ziegler said company officials will meet with representatives of the EPA and the state health department to straighten out the confusion.
