The first stage of decontaminating the water system in Alamosa could be complete by Saturday.
The first stage consisted of dumping high amounts of chlorine into the water to kill salmonella bacteria. Residents were unable to use the water for anything but flushing their toilets.
Stage two will begin when the chlorine levels are reduced. Residents will be notified by the city when this happens. During stage two people will be able to take short showers bit will still be unable to ingest the water.
Stage two could be as short as 10 days but could last longer depending on tests done on the water.
