Colorado's Democratic Congressman Mark Udall said he respects Al Gore's decision not to run again for the presidency.

Former Vice President Gore came agonizingly close to winning two years ago, but says he won't run again in 2004. And he adds he probably will not have another opportunity to seek the White House.

Gore told CBS 60 Minutes, “the last campaign was an extremely difficult one.” Udall said he understands the decision must have been difficult, but he hopes there will be other strong candidates who will carry the Democratic Party banner.

He said Gore's platform of health care, protecting the environment and building a strong economy are still just as important.
