Fire investigators are trying to find the person responsible for setting a fire over night that left a Colorado Springs real estate agency and insurance office in ruins. The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to the blaze at 3520 Galley Road just after 4:00am. Both Century 21 Academy Realty and Mike Thompson Shelter Insurance work out of the building.
Firefighters say the two alarm fire took more than two hours to put out. Investigators say the building is completely destroyed and they estimate the damage to be at least a million dollars for the building and equipment inside.
Officials say the fire was started in filing cabinets in an office on the West side of the building. Before starting the fire, investigators say the suspects had gone through the files. When firefighters arrived on scene, the building was engulfed in flames. Crews were forced to fight the blaze from the outside after the second floor collapsed. The fire was contained to the one building and no others were damaged.
The fire department says one person suffered minor injuries but was treated at the scene.
If you have any information on who may have started this fire you are asked to call Colorado Springs Crime Stoppers at 634-STOP.
