17-Year-Old Detained for Firing Shots in Neighborhood

Police said a 17-year-old boy is responsible for shots that rang out in a southern Colorado neighborhood, prompting neighbors to call 911.

The shots were reported shortly before 3:30 a.m. Sunday on the 200 block of South Prospect Street in Colorado Springs.

Police said they searched the neighborhood, but didn't find the source of the shots.

One officer reportedly hung back after the others left and heard two more shots about a half hour later. The officer also saw a car speeding toward the area where he was sitting, according to police.

The vehicle was stopped near Prospect Street and Vermijo Ave. and two suspects were detained. Police said they could see a small hand gun inside the vehicle.

A 17-year-old boy had been firing shots into the air from the vehicle, according to police.

Police said no one was hurt and no property damage was found at the time.
