With the deaths of four more soldiers this weekend in Baghdad, the U.S troop death toll in Iraq has surpassed 4,000.

Dozens gathered in Acacia Park to protest the war on Monday night. They lit candles to remember the troops.

Among those at the rally, Captain Rick Duncan, a former Marine who said he was medically discharged after his third deployment. “I'm here because the war is draining our resources, breaking the military families and the military is getting abused.”

4,000 heroes have died including Fort Carson's most recent casualty, Staff Sergeant Mike Elledge. "He died instantly, which gives me comfort," said Carleen Elledge when she spoke with 11 News last week.

"My husband went over there for a reason. If people aren't supportive of the war, then he died in vain," said Carleen.

These protesters, though, said they'll continue to gather until their message is heard.

This group rallies every time the death toll reaches a milestone.

Out of the 4,000 troops who have died in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Fort Carson has lost 235.

anti-war rallies are for uneducated losers.

We live in an amazing country that allows each and everyone of us to support or not support decisions by the government. We should do so however in respectful manners and not demean what we support or do not support by acting so poorly. When you do so you make your cause seem much smaller and less important. Enjoy your freedoms in the country that have been created for you, but please do so appropriately.

It's people like PJ making city go down hill.

PJ needs some "home" training.

PJ, get bent!

Posted by: PJ Location: CS on Mar 28, 2008 at 03:46 PM
It would seem that what makes Colo. Springs ugly are those of you out there that apparently have difficulty accepting those that have a different perspective than yours. I beleive I can support the troops without supporting the war in Iraq. I guess in order to not make it ugly, as defined by E and Brian, we all must thik alike and follow the 30 percent that still beleve in President Bush

It would appear as though Brandon does not like those who do not travel to the beat of his little drum. Since I am a native, get over it

Good comment Brandon, Colorado Springs is beautiful, but there are too many people like PJ who make it ugly. I completely support the military and the sacrifices they make including being away from their families on Thanksgiving. They know when they choose to enter the military that being away is part of serving. It is very unfortunate but it is part of their sacrifice. God bless every single person in our military.

It's residents like PJ who make this an ugly city/place to live.

Just say NO to fat chicks!

I'd like to thank all of the soldiers and veterans who fight and have fought to give our citizens the right to express themselves. It appears most of this blog is a little "left-leaning," but that's just fine. Just remember to apprciate the troops who are simply following the orders of much smarter people us. Maybe, just maybe, the cause is just...

I must have not gotten the memo that put Becky in charge of what is appreciated in Colorado Springs and what is not. Many living here do not support the war and have no difficulty allowing anti-war rallys in this community

Posted by: Jack Location: Security on Mar 27, 2008 at 09:55 AM
All things considered, I know more soldiers and former soldiers who oppose the war than the ones who support it. The ONLY people I talk to who support it are contractors and businessmen. the only ones who are profiting from it. Actually talk to soldiers openly, and see what they think. No one wants to leave his family on Thanksgiving Day to sit in a desert and get shot at. Those of you who think they do, maybe you should get Cable TV and the Internet, and listen to what the real people are saying, not the controlled media like Fox News. I just wonder if the President hasn't screwed up the economy so much that no one could afford such luxuries anymore. I love my country and my freedom, and I want it back. Read the Constitution, it tells us what we should do.

Posted by: PJ Location: CS on Mar 26, 2008 at 05:07 PM
Careleen, I am sorry for your loss as well as the 4000 others who have died and the thousands of others who haave been wounded. Whether your husband and others have died in vain is for history to judge, but people not supporting this war are not to blame and do not determine if his death was in vain

Posted by: David Location: Acacia Park on Mar 26, 2008 at 02:01 PM
Support the troops. Let them come home to their families instead of dying.

Posted by: Becky Location: Fountain on Mar 26, 2008 at 10:43 AM
You know for all the intelligence some people seem to possess they always forget that the president can't go to war without the backing of congress. Why don't people start blaming them a little more. And as for a war that supposedly doesn't help anyone, tell that to the hundreds of soldiers who come home remembering that they made a difference, however big or small, in someone's life while they were in Iraq. Protest war all you want. Its your God given right. Just don't do it in a largely military community. It's not appreciated.

Posted by: Bill Location: colorado springs, CO on Mar 26, 2008 at 02:28 AM
Hey, JC. God bless Pres. Bush & VP Cheney. Personally, I wouldn't mind another 4 more years with both of them at the wheel. If it keeps your liberal rearend busy doing some thing else, so be it. To have peace, there must be war. Enough said.

Posted by: E on Mar 25, 2008 at 06:23 PM
JC, you are so ignorant. We are far from living under dictatorship. Try living in a country with a dictator and see how you like it. You have absolutely no idea how good you have it here. We need to support our troops no matter what! They are amazing men and women.

Posted by: JC Montgomery Location: Colorado Springs on Mar 25, 2008 at 04:34 PM
Poor Bill and Ryan Acker - I'm glad to know at least someone in America loves war as much as Bush and Cheney! The U.S.-led invasion did not only destroy the Baath political regime, it also annihilated the entire American public sector including education, health care, food rations, social security, and the armed forces. No, I suppose opposing the war is for "morons" and "real winners"

Posted by: Ryan Acker Location: C/S on Mar 25, 2008 at 01:56 PM
This park attracts some real winners.

Posted by: Dusty Location: Trinidad on Mar 25, 2008 at 10:31 AM
These war protesters are working on an invalid premise. Their message has been heard by those woh wish to kill Americans. These same killers take encouragement in the fact that the protesters do not want our troops to protect lives. If the killers can get our troops to stop interfereing with them, they will be free to kill even more Americans with little or no resistance or penalty at all

Posted by: Gregory Location: Colorado Springs on Mar 25, 2008 at 09:44 AM
I was there, in spite of some health issues, to stand up for two things: 1)The UNCONSTITUTIONALITY and illegality of this war in Iraq and the U.S.'s military campaign's around the world, at the behest of anti-american org's like the CFR and UN I might add. 2)Promote the ONLY candidate for President that WILL end all of that as "Commander in Chief", Ron Paul. Without properly delegated authority the military campaigns around the world, let alone Iraq, can be war crimes, as we have violated our OWN laws! Are we a nation under the rule of law or at the behest of men that thirst for power and blood? Remember, Perception rules and it is high time for a change in perspective. Thanks for your time.

Posted by: JC Montgomery Location: Colorado Springs on Mar 25, 2008 at 09:06 AM
Sorry about your loss, Carleen. If we want to support he troups then we need to demand they come home. Where is the evidence that the 3 trillion we've spent is helping ANYONE? Meanwhile, our economy is being destroyed like an Iraqi village. Come on, folks, we're living under a dictator who uses words like "democracy" and "freedom" to keep us passive and ignorant. And we sit back and let psychopaths ruin our country all the while pretending they are followers of Jesus. 911 was an inside job...it's amazing what you see when you look. No one dies in vain with this war, but the real enemy we need to oppose is our facist leaders.
