There was another huge round of layoffs Friday at WorldCom's offices in Colorado Springs. The bankrupt company handed out pink slips to 500 employees. Nationwide, 3,000 workers lost their jobs.

On Friday morning, 500 WorldCom workers got the news they didn't want to hear. They had to pack up their stuff and leave immediately. Dozens of workers were called into a 9 o'clock meeting. And that's when the found out who was on the list.

The laid-off workers will get a severence package. It will vary between 6 weeks and 6 months, depending on tenure.

This is the second round of layoffs this year. In June, 500 other workers lost their jobs. An official with WorldCom says these layoffs will not affect service to customers.
