Bombings a Reminder to Farmers to Keep Food Supply Safe

Thursday's deadly bombings in London are serving as a reminder to farmers across Colorado to keep the food supply safe -- in case of an attack.

Governor Owens' special assistant on homeland security says the state's current concern is keeping roads and public-transit systems safe.

But Fran Santagata says efforts will be focused on protecting the food supply if officials receive information that it could be targeted.

Colorado Livestock Association spokeswoman Barb Wilkinson says the bombings are prompting some farmers to keep closer watch on their lots.

Others, however, are expressing more concern about a horse in Delta County.

The animal has been diagnosed with vesicular stomatitis virus.

The virus has symptoms similar to foot-and-mouth disease, but is not fatal.
