One of two Navy SEALS killed in Afghanistan is being identified as a man from Littleton.
The Pentagon says 25-year-old Petty Officer Second Class Danny P. Dietz was found dead Monday in Kunar Province, along with Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy of Patchogue, New York.
They were part of an elite four-member commando team that disappeared June 28th while conducting counterterrorism operations.
One team member was rescued, but a fourth is still missing.
Dietz was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team Two, based at Virginia Beach, Virginia. Murphy was assigned to SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team One, based at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
A transport helicopter sent to rescue the four was shot down the day the team vanished, killing all 16 U.S. servicemen aboard.
