Colorado authorities say a Georgia lending company has agreed to pay $5,000 in the first case of follow-up action for a company accused of violating Colorado's no-call telemarketing law.
The state attorney general's office says six more companies are under investigation for continued complaints of calling numbers on a list of people who don't want calls from telemarketers, even though the companies have been ordered to stop. First Atlantic Mortgage of Norcross, Georgia received a cease-and-desist order in July and agreed to stop, but the state received more complaints that it called numbers on the no-call list.
Penalties of $2,000 per violation and a lawsuit could result if there are more violations. Since enforcement of the no-call law began in July Attorney General Ken Salazar has issued 162 cease-and-desist orders.
