The conservative Christian group Focus on the Family says the retirement of U.S. Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor's is a "wonderful opportunity."
That's an indication of the high stakes involved as President Bush proceeds with nominating a replacement for the first female justice on the court.
Officials with the Colorado Springs-based ministry believe O'Connor went beyond just interpreting the Constitution.
She ruled with the more liberal justices on recent decisions regarding the display of the Ten Commandments on government property.
Colorado Springs Reverend Ted Haggard of the National Association of Evangelicals says his group will be watching closely and hope that senators will vote on the president's nomination and not filibuster.
