A little Colorado Springs boy got to marvel in the spot light for saving his sister's life.

Eight-year-old Nick Witte came to his one-year-old sister's rescue when she almost drowned in their dog's water bowl six months ago.

Nick Witte said he couldn't wait to get his medal of honor on Friday night. He said he's going to pin it on the living room wall at his home.

Witte was proud as ever to get his hero award. He received a medal by the Colorado Springs Fire Department recognizing his bravery. He said he knows exactly what it means to be a hero. "You save people." said Witte.

The near tragic experience happened in September of 2007. Nick said he remembers that day like it was yesterday, the day Kaida accidentally tipped over and fell inside a five-gallon bucket, head first.

She could have died but Nick saved the day with his big strong muscles.

Right now Kaida may not understand exactly what her big brother did for her, but one day she'll know and will brag to everyone about the time her big brother Nick, saved her from drowning.

Nick was also the recipient of a, Wish Upon A Hero, prize. He told his mom he always wanted a transformer and when they enrolled him, he got his wish.

Good for Nick! Without the first step of getting his sister out AND alerting adults she would not have made it. Every step counts when it comes to saving lives. And it's also good to actually see a follow-up to the original story...

Anyone with children knows it only takes a couple of seconds for kids to get into things-- no matter how close you watch them. Jim, you weren't there so stop being so judgemental.

To Jim as to where the parents were. Perhaps if you read all the news articles, you would have known that the father actually did the cpr on the little girl. Nick, aunty Monica is so proud of you.
