Big Holiday Prize

The must-have gift this Christmas costs only a dollar, but could be worth much more.

It's a Powerball ticket for tomorrow's drawing. The estimated $280 million prize is the fifth-highest multi-state jackpot in history.

In the 23 states and Washington, D-C where the game is played, merchants say ticket machines have hardly stopped running. One person bought nearly $300 worth of tickets at an Oregon convenience store. A line snaked outside a South Carolina supermarket before it even opened.

Lines were especially long Tuesday because many Powerball outlets
such as liquor stores and groceries will be closed on Christmas Day.

Lottery officials say that may keep the final jackpot from reaching the level of the top Powerball prizes, which have crept close to $300 million.

Tune in to 11 News at 10pm Wednesday night for the winning numbers.
