Small Pox Plan

Colorado health officials say they aren't going to tell the public all the details of a plan on how to react if smallpox is diagnosed.

Chief medical officer Ned Calonge says the state health officials are trying to figure out what details to give without jeopardizing an ability to eradicate the threat.

All states must submit a plan by tomorrow to the Centers for Disease Control. The plan must specify what states would do in case the smallpox virus is used as a weapon.

The CDC controls the stockpile of smallpox vaccine. It would ship it to Denver International Airport. State health workers would distribute it to local governments, which would dole it out.

It's estimated the vaccine could get to any community within 12 hours.
