A 22-year-old Air Force Academy cadet who collapsed while snowboarding at the Keystone ski resort died from heart failure.

The Summit County coroner says Justin P. Troyer had several cardiac conditions including an enlarged heart that sent him into acute heart failure.

Troyer was a senior at the Air Force Academy from Jarrettsville, Maryland. He and some friends were hiking to the top of Keystone's Outback area on Thursday when he collapsed and fell face-first into the snow.

His friends summoned Ski Patrol members. They administered emergency medical treatment until a medical helicopter took Troyer to the Keystone Medical Center. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Coroner Dave Joslin says there's no indication that Troyer's cardiac conditions were previously known.
