A Colorado Springs native and active member of the U.S. Marine Corps is dead, but military officials and Georgia police aren't saying yet how he died.
Marine Corps officials are identifying the man as 28-year-old Sergeant Michael J.-Carlson. His body was discovered yesterday morning in motel room in Albany, Georgia.
Carlson was part of the Third Assault Amphibian Battalion, First Marine Division, First Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton, California. He was performing temporary duties at Albany's Marine Corps Logistics Base.
A Camp Pendleton Marine spokesman says the cause of Carlson's death is under investigation.
It's not clear whether Carlson was a veteran of the war in Iraq or Afghanistan, but his battalion has served in Iraq.
