United Airlines is reopening talks in an urgent new attempt to get concessions from its mechanics. United is pledging to find a way to achieve five-point-two billion dollars in cutbacks. Mechanics decisively rejected a seven percent wage cut yesterday. The airline acknowledged that the fate of its financial recovery plan hinges on securing givebacks from its 13-thousand mechanics. United is the largest carrier at Denver International Airport, serving 70 percent of passengers. Pilots and other employee groups have accepted proposed wage cuts. Their agreements expire December 31st unless all the airline's workers agree to concessions. The nation's second-biggest carrier faces a 375 milliondollar debt payment on Monday.
