Budget Troubles

Updated: Mon 7:30 AM, Nov 25, 2002

Pueblo City Council members say they faced tough choices in drafting the 2003 budget. The council is scheduled to consider the new budget tomorrow night.

Lower-than-projected revenue growth means the city will leave from 24 to 29 jobs open next year. Council members said last week that each department's operating expenses likely will be cut by 17 percent.

That still left the council trying to come up with another two million either through reductions or revenue increases.

Residents rallied Friday against cuts in programs for senior citizens. The council was split on whether to reduce funding to nonprofit groups.
