A system producing heavy snow in the central mountains arrives in SE Colorado overnight Sunday into Monday bringing moisture, windy conditions and colder temperatures. Snow showers will be possible across the I-25 corridor to start the day. This system will produce bands of snow through the day Monday. The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians says University of Colorado professor Ward Churchill's claim of tribal membership is fraudulent.
The statement was posted Tuesdy in the name of Chief George Wickliffe on the tribe's Web site.
It says the tribe wants to make clear that Churchill isn't a member and was given only an honorary associate membership in the early 1990s because he couldn't prove any Cherokee ancestry.
The tribe contradicts Churchill's assertion that he has conclusive proof of his American Indian status, including his tribal membership card and videotape of his induction ceremony.
C-U is examining whether Churchill misrepresented himself as an American Indian and is looking into charges of plagiarism.
