Broadmoor Buys Aspen Hotel

The company that owns the Broadmoor resort in Colorado Springs says it has reached an agreement to purchase the historic Hotel Jerome in Aspen.

The privately-held Oklahoma Publishing Company, which also owns The Daily Oklahoman newspaper, isn't disclosing terms of the agreement.

Chairwoman and chief executive Christy Everest says the company and family are excited about the purchase, saying Hotel Jerome and Aspen are -- quote -- "very special places."

The company has owned the Broadmoor since 1988, and the newspaper in Oklahoma City since 1903.

Hotel Jerome was founded in 1889 by Jerome B.- Wheeler. The 91-room hotel is a landmark in the upscale mountain town.

Broadmoor President Steve Bartolin says the company will be respect the history of Hotel Jerome.
