Unemployment Rate Up

Colorado's unemployment rate inched up slightly in March, to 5.1%.

Last month's rate was up two-tenths of a percentage point compared with February, but down from five-point-six percent in March 2004.

The national jobless rate was five-point-two percent, down from five-point-seven a year ago.

State labor economists say it's common to see fluctuations in the rate as the labor market gains strength.

A state labor department report released today indicates the number of non-farm jobs increased nearly seven-thousand in March, based on seasonally-adjusted figures.

That puts the total at just over two-point-two (m) million jobs.

Ten of the eleven industry sectors added jobs, with the loss coming in government.
