Super Slab Legislation

State lawmakers are considering placing some limits on private toll roads -- including the "Super Slab."

Castle Rock Republican Senator Tom Wiens plans to introduce a bill tomorrow that would prevent private road developers from forcing landowners to sell their property. Supporters of the Front Range Toll Road, nicknamed the "Super Slab," say the measure effectively ends their two (b) billion dollar, 210-mile long toll road on the plains east of Interstate 25.

Wiens says such roads could still be built if developers are willing to negotiate a fair price with each property owner.

Another measure would make private road developers comply with the same environmental regulations and planning procedures as state roads.
