Springs Utilities Proposes Rate Increase

Colorado Springs Utilities customers will have to pay a little more if an overall rate increase gets the okay from the City Council.

CSU is making the rate adjustment, in part, to help pay for new street lights. That means a new fee of $1.79 on your bill for a street light service charge.

Wastewater rates would also increase, but electricity would drop slightly. And water rates would change depending on the season.

Overall, your average utility bill would go up about $4.70 a month. That's slightly lower than CSU initially discussed.

The utility company also wants to start charging late fees for people who don't pay their bills on time.

The council will vote on the proposal in January.
