A scare at Colorado State University. A student has been hospitalized with a form of bacterial meningitis.

The disease is contagious and can be fatal.

Four friends and medical staff who treated the student have been immunized as a precaution.

Bacterial meningitis kills about 10 percent of the 3,000 people who contract it every year. But outbreaks are rare.

It can be treated with antibiotics.
