Matthew Barden, Resident Agent in Charge for the Colorado Springs Resident DEA Office, says prescription medication abuse in on the rise among teens in the US. It is second only to marijuana in terms of drugs abused.
He also says the number of drug-related traffic fatalities among teens is growing nationwide, as is the number of overdoses.
Barden also suggested that parents keep the drugs and medications stored somewhere that they can’t be stolen. He said it is especially important with the highly addictive pills like oxycontin and oxycodone.
