DOC Says "Nothing" Could Stop Prison Killing

Colorado Department of Corrections officials say nothing could have prevented the killing of corrections officer Sergeant Eric Autobee earlier this month.

Officials say measures immediately following the killing included sending additional guards to the Limon Correctional Facility. Prisons' spokeswoman Alison Morgan says suspect Edward Montour killed Autobee so he could be separated from the other prisoners.

The prison is on the edge of Limon, about 90 miles east of Denver. Morgan says recruiting guards for the remote facility is difficult and guards there are under a lot of stress.

A female teacher was raped there in January while five other prison staffers have died because of traffic accidents or illness in the last several years.
