Monarch Ski Resort Sold

A Colorado-based investor group has bought the Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area for five million dollars. Monarch spokeswoman Carrie Loch says PowderMonarch L-L-C closed the deal yesterday. Pueblo native Rich Moorhead and Monarch controller Melissa Goforth will have minority stake and will run the 63-year-old ski
hill. Moorhead has worked at Monarch for 26 years. Loch says the new ownership team hopes to begin improvements on the ski area's infrastructure including its day lodge. the owners will then start working with an existing master plan. The deal also includes the day lodge and a Sno-Cat skiing operation. The 670-acre ski area is scheduled to open November 22nd.
