Raid Ends Hostage Situation

The White House says the Russian hostage crisis is a reminder of the danger of terrorism. The siege ended today with Russian special forces storming the theater. Three Americans were among the captors and appear to have survived.
As President Bush flew to a Pacific Rim conference in Mexico,
spokesman Ari Fleischer said he lamented the innocent lives lost.
State Department spokeswoman Nancy Beck says the U-S is relieved
that the hostage crisis is over.
Beck condemned the hostage taking as an act of terrorism and
says the U-S condemns terrorist attacks wherever they occur despite
the motivation.
The hostage takers were Chechens demanding the pullout of
Russian troops from Chechnya.
